Upcoming Dates

Hello students and families! We're back to a regular schedule this week, but here are some reminders of upcoming dates of note:

MANC is closed for Thanksgiving break Wednesday 11/26-Sunday 11/30. 

Our last group class of the fall is Saturday 12/6 from 9-10am.  This will be primarily a dress rehearsal and practice for the upcoming holiday piano recital. You can rsvp here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4aa4ab29a6fd0-fall1

Holiday piano recital for the Steele - Wisuthseriwong studios is Friday, 12/12, 6pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on West Market St.  I'll send out more information about this later, but keep it on your calendars!

No lessons the week of 12/15.  Winter break at MANC is 12/22-1/3.  

Festival and Competition

Good luck to everyone participating in this weekend's Piano Festival or Competition! I hope that many of you will plan to attend some of the other events this weekend, particularly the honors' recital of students who receive special recognition for their performance in the competition (Saturday at 1), and the masterclass with Omri Shimron at 2 pm.

Piano Festival

Please remember to turn in your registration forms for the piano festival by this Friday, October 31st!! Nearly all of you have either turned in your forms or notified me that you are unavailable that weekend (Nov 7-8). This Piano Festival is the one event of the year where The Music Academy gets to completely focus on our piano students, and I hope you will all take advantage of this opportunity to attend as many events as possible.

Group Class

Thank you to all who attended last Friday's group class! I thought you all worked well together in everything from our warm-up 'cup game' to the listening/commenting/performing with your peers. I'm looking forward to our next class in November!

Our first group class is coming up in just a few weeks! Your registration includes 2 group classes along with 16 weeks of private lessons, but students are encouraged to attend all 4 classes! Dear Parents,

We are excited to start planning for a new year of piano!  It is hard to believe that it is already August!  Where has the summer gone?

The fall trimester at MANC begins the week of August 25. If you have not already signed up for your lesson time, please do so HERE.  To pay your tuition and complete your registration for lessons make sure you go to MANC's Registration page http://www.musicacademync.org/registration and click the REGISTER HERE link.  

 

This year, we are excited to announce a new program for the students in the Steele/Wisuthseriwong studios.  We will be combining our studios to do some group piano classes this year.  The tuition will stay the same, but instead of receiving 18 private lessons, each student will receive 16 private lessons in the fall term and can attend up to 4 group classes.  

This is a great opportunity to build an atmosphere of community and collaboration among our piano students:  they’ll get to know each other by playing for and listening to each other.  We’ll also be able to expand our piano ensemble opportunities, and have a chance to do some other supplemental things that we often don’t have time to do in lessons, like learn more about great performers and composers, talk about recital etiquette, and play music learning games!  Christy and I both agree that both teachers and students will benefit from this new format.

Students are welcome to attend all 4 group classes dates, or as many as you are able.  We will send out a link through Sign Up Genius for you to RSVP for the class(es) that you will attend.

FALL GROUP CLASS DATES

Friday 10/24, 5:30-6:30pm

Friday 11/7, 5:30-6:30pm

Saturday 12/6, 9:00-10:00am

Because of the group class schedule, there will be NO private lessons the following weeks:

Artist Faculty Concerts:

• June 20th, 7:30 pm: Mezzo-soprano Stephanie Foley Davis and I will be presenting a recital of music for piano and voice. I would love to have your support by seeing you in the audience that evening!
• July 18th, 7:30 pm: Aaron Mood and Samee Griffith will present a program of four hand piano music.  You don't get to hear this kind of music that often, and I encourage you to attend!
• August 22nd, 7:30 pm: MANC faculty string quartet. Colleen Chenail, Ruth Metheny, Karl Ronnevik, and Heather Lofdahl will perform a program of diverse music for string quartet.  I've heard them rehearsing and they sound great! 

Free Guest Piano Duo Recital at MANC

Two UNCG graduate students, Stephanie Schmidt and Elena Nezhdanova-Cunningham, are presenting a program of duo piano music at MANC next week.  I know it's short notice, but I'd like to encourage you to attend!

Thursday, March 13 at 6pm in the Performance Hall

The program will feature two-piano works by Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens, Lutoslawski, Milhaud, Poulenc, and Piazzolla, and it's FREE!  Even if students can't stay for the entire program, they may slip in and out quietly in between pieces.  This is a great opportunity, and I think you all will enjoy it!
